Our Story/Our Vision

There is the family you are born with and then there is the family we choose. ESG is a family of choosing comprised of individuals who value each other, the land and the community we are blessed to be a part of. It is a privilege to be able to simplify one’s life and get back to the basics and our responsibility to share that with the community.

Having experienced first hand the effects of colonization, we have our story to share with a world flooded with information without a grasp on fact. Southern Africa was the last part of Africa to gain independence from our colonizers (Dutch, Portugese and British). The current living generation for the past 40years has been charting a course through land reconciliation issues and undoing residential school systems legacies. In that journey we have learnt the importance of reclaiming our traditional values of UBUNTU/HUNHU, and creating a society not solely driven by capitalism.

The experience of Black folks across the globe not having access to good arable land, drives our passion for farming , culture and identify. Our goal is for everyone to feel at home as such we aim to make available to you that connection with history, culture and nature. It is in sharing the true identity and heritage of all Black people that the greater community has an opportunity to address their internal biases. It is a gift to share traditional African practices and the produce with the local communities.

We believe it is in learning where we come from that we can change the narrative on where we are going. A big part of our history is growing our food. We also aim to bring you products that are abundant in Southern Africa as our way of adding to the Canadian mosaic.
